How do Asides work

I saw this in the release notes:

The sidenote syntax has changed (they are now callouts. Example: >[!aside|left] will give a left aligned callout. If you want to make it go further left, you can add up to 5 + next to the left information (for example: >[!aside|left +++++] will push the sidenote to the margin, so it doesn't mess with text);

Is there more documentation? I can't seem to get it to work. Are there other plugins or requirements?

Ah - I just noticed it needs to be in Reading View. 🤦

Also figured out you need
>[!aside|right]
> text on the next line, not the same line or it won't work

What do in and hide do? What should I expect to see?
