• nvda_snapshot_alpha-26134 from august 2022 is 27 mb
• nvda_snapshot_alpha-33656 from august 2024 is 36 mb
• nvda_snapshot_alpha-52012 from august is 47! MB

it is likely that the size increase of snapshots Indicates a multiple of growth in an installed copy.

Describe the solution you'd like

While strictly spoken there's not a huge problem here, there are at least some reasons that might cause this growth we might want to research.

1. Py2exe implicitly adding more Python packages, also these we don't need. Note that removing implicit dependencies later on can sometimes be experienced as API breaking because add-on authors expect them to be there.
2. Python version changes. These can be ignored but should probably be isolated
3. Other possible reasons I can not yet think of.

Additional context

From the beta snapshots, there are the following interesting increases:

1. From 2022.4RC1 to 2023.1 beta 1 -> +2.5mb
2. From 2023.1RC2 to 2023.2Beta1 -> +0.6mb
3. From 2023.3RC1 to 2024.1 beta 1 -> +3.1mb
4. From 2024.3 RC1 to 2024.4 Beta 1 -> +1.7mb

After this, there's a gap in the data and regular beta releases no longer seem to be released on this page, but there's another size increase

Even if it's not useful for investigation, notice that py2exe does not compress library.zip very well (the compression process it's quite undocumented, apparently).
So, I played a bit with 2025.2 library.zip and 7Zip.
With compression level 9 and format deflate, I get a 10.5 MB library. And, moreover, NVDA works!
With BZip2 and LZMA the file is even slightly smaller, but NVDA does not load.
There would be UPX too, if we want...
