I’m deploying my mine-craft server and I’d like to severely lock down the container - (no networking beside server protocol)

for that to happen, it seems necessary to have a mechanism for building a container image with all the artefacts so that starting the mine-craft on the server can happen with only data from the image

You could use https://docker-minecraft-server.readthedocs.io/en/latest/configuration/misc-options/#setup-only and have your Dockerfile add that content.

To speed up server startup I plan to avoid all downloads and copy files from local paths. I'm able to use a local server.jar using:

TYPE: CUSTOM
CUSTOM_SERVER: /mnt/plugins/multipaper.jar

but no way to do the same for the plugins I use. Looks like that PLUGINS parameter only accepts URL, so need to download them. Is there any option ? Is it needed to build the docker image with all jar files needed ? Not clear how to do it

as far as i can tell file urls are supported - i tested them for bind mounted packwiz

Sure, but I found the way to have the plugin jar files copied from a local path, without needing any download:

In K8s nodes where Minecraft servers run I copy the files:

/home/users/xxxx/jars --> for server jar ( multipaper in this example )
/home/users/xxxx/jars/plugins --> for server plugins ( LuckPerms, unifiedMetrics... )

• In the server configMap, to get the server.jar file:

TYPE: CUSTOM
CUSTOM_SERVER: /mnt/plugins/multipaper.jar

and removed PLUGINS parameter with all URLs.

• In server deployment yaml, we just need to add the /mnt/plugins and /plugins dirs in container, mapped to a local path:

            path: /home/users/xxxx/jars

        - name: plugins-jar
          hostPath: 
            path: /home/users/xxxx/jars/plugins

and it works to me... from server logs:
